Looking for a used car can be a complicated process, especially if you’re buying from a private party.  You again can save a lot of money going this route, just make sure you’ve got a friend who knows a thing or two about cars to come with you and make sure you’re getting a good car.  One of the things that can make just about anyone shy away from buying a used car is if it hasn’t been well kept.  Of course, there is the regular maintenance that should be done to keep your car running well, but if you’re buying a new car you don’t want the interior to be a mess.  One of the things that can turn you off from buying a used car quickly is if it has been smoked in.  In this article, we will help you learn how to get smoke smell out of a car so that you can get a great deal on the car you want and be able to drive in comfort.

Cigarette smoke is one of the more difficult smells to remove because of the chemicals in cigarettes and because of the way it enters the air.  A burning cigarette will allow all of the tar and toxins in the cigarette to become air born in the smoke.  These chemicals will then settle onto whatever surface they happen to come upon and can travel even into the smallest of places.  In your car, this includes the seats, air vents and even the equipment hidden behind your dashboard.

We’ve learned a few tricks that can really help quickly remove smoke smell from your vehicle.  The first is quick, simple and doesn’t have any risk of damaging or staining anything in your vehicle.  Dryer sheets are designed to help not only soften fabrics but absorb the last little bit of dirt or odor from your clean clothes.  Hiding a dryer sheet in your car is a great start to removing the smoke smell.  In this case, unscented works great, or you can choose your favorite scent!  Consider hiding them under seats, in cubbies, or behind your dashboard.  Sunlight and a fresh breeze is actually one of the best ways you can help deodorize your car, so make sure if it’s a nice day you park in the sun with your windows down and sunroof open.  One last trick is to use vinegar or baking soda to try and remove the smell.  Since they can spill consider place a bowl of either on your seat each night until the smell is gone.  Vinegar will leave a lingering smell, but it will dissipate after a few days while cigarette smoke can last for years.
